International Conference IEEE Smart Grid World Forum

The IEEE Smart Grid World Forum, is a unique series of events that form a global platform for collaboration of stakeholders worldwide to support and promote the evolution of Smart Grid. IEEE Smart Grid World Forum provides the framework for the exchange of ideas and sharing best practices in different existing views and multiple approaches to Smart Grid.

The first event will be held in Brussels, Belgium on 2-3 December. Entitled the Evolution of the Grid, the focus of this event will be on the actual realization of Smart Grid. This two-day event will feature 20+ invited speakers, with presentations and discussions. It will bring together a wide international perspective as well as perspectives from different technical aspects, including standards. Organised in partnership with the European Smart Grid Technology Platform this event will bare an emphasis on Smart Grid developments in Europe

4th International Conference on Integration of Renewable and Distributed Energy Resources

Call for Posters Deadline Extended to July 31, 2010

Posters with related contributions in the topic areas listed below, and emphasizing the grid integration of distributed and renewable power, are invited to support the conference technical program. Posters that describe new methods or research findings or report on actual deployment experience—ranging from small-scale prototypes to large-scale utility and industrial demonstrations—are of primary interest.

EEGI ROADMAP 2010-18 & IMPLEMENTATION PLAN 2010-12

The European Electricity Grid Initiative (EEGI) Roadmap 2010-18 and Implementation Plan 2010-12, has been prepared by ENTSO-E and EDSO-SG in close collaboration with the European Commission, ERGEG and other relevant stakeholders. This Implementation Plan is submitted to be formally endorsed at the next SET-PLAN conference in Madrid on 3rd of June 2010.

The EEGI is one of the European Industrial Initiatives under the Strategic Energy Technologies Plan (SET-PLAN) and proposes a 9-year European research, development and demonstration (RD&D) programme to accelerate innovation and the development of the electricity networks of the future in Europe. The programme focuses on system innovation rather than on technology innovation, and addresses the challenge of integrating new technologies under real life working conditions and validating the results.

The SET PLAN supports European energy and climate policies through technology innovation. It aims to coordinate efforts at national and EU level through joint strategic planning and effective implementation mechanisms. European Industrial Initiatives are industry-driven strategic technology alliances to address key low-carbon energy technologies.

ENTSO-E is the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity, representing 42 Transmission System Operators (TSOs) from 34 countries. Founded in December 2008, it’s legal raison d’être is Regulation (EC) 714/2009 on electricity cross-border exchanges. EDSO-SG (European DSO Association for SmartGrids) has recently been created by a number of Distribution System Operators and is open to wide membership. The two associations, jointly with the European Technology Platform SmartGrids will play an important role in the planning, monitoring and dissemination of this initiative. In the dissemination of the results regarding the distribution network, Eurelectric will also play a key role.

Research Activities in the European Economic Recovery Package

As part of the European Economic Recovery Plan, the Commission has launched in 2009 three Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs). The three PPPs represent a powerful means of boosting research efforts in three large industrial sectors - automotive, construction and manufacturing - which have been particularly affected by the economic downturn and where innovation can significantly contribute towards a more green and sustainable economy.

In order to support the preparation of proposals, the Directorates General for Research, Information Society and Media, Energy, and for Mobility and Transport of the European Commission are holding a Joint Information Day on 9 July 2010 in the Charlemagne building, rue de la Loi 170, in Brussels.
